Children and young people from across Manchester came together at the beautiful Gorton Monastery in July to celebrate their achievements as part of the Skills for Life programme linking to the MCC Education Strategy
The event recognised the amazing work that young people have been doing throughout the year in their schools and communities. Pupils shared projects, reflected on their learning and celebrated the skills they have developed, including teamwork, communication, leadership, creativity and problem-solving.
Throughout the day, children and young people took part in activities, met other Skills for Life Champions and had the opportunity to showcase the positive impact they are making in their local communities.
Our MCC Apprenticeships were showcased by Araya Worsley, Education Apprentice, who shared her journey from school to MCC to take part and complete her apprenticeship to be become a permanent member of staff at MCC. The celebration highlighted how learning outside the classroom helps build confidence and prepares young people for the future.

The event was a reminder that every young person has unique talents and strengths. By taking part in enrichment activities, volunteering, environmental projects, sports, arts and community initiatives, Manchester’s children and young people are developing valuable skills that will support them throughout their lives.
The Skills for Life Celebration ended with a strong message: when young people are given opportunities to learn, lead and make a difference, they can achieve incredible things.
Well done to all the children and young people who took part – you are helping to make Manchester a fantastic Child Friendly City!
