Martenscroft Nursery school in Hulme have been successfully awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.
As part of our Child Friendly City ambition, the city is working to embed Children’s Rights across the city.
The fantastic work at Martenscroft enforces that every child has the right to be heard and for their views to be taken seriously, including on discussions around climate and the environment.
We know that every child should enjoy the same opportunities to be healthy and grow in environmental conditions that don’t impact negatively on their development.
Children’s education should help them to protect the environment!
As part of the process it was commented that the children and young people at Martenscroft were aware of environmental issues and were very passionate about protecting their planet –
There are plans to create water stations for wildlife and to make bug hotels, and a range fantastic activities!

The development of the community garden has been a huge success.
There is a real collaborative approach to creating an Eco-Code, this approach has allowed young people to take ownership and create a final code that is treasured by everyone at the nursery!
