During Youth work week on the 7th November children and young people from across Manchester attended our Discovery Day.
The day was hosted and facilitated by young people and took place at Hideout Youth Zone in Gorton. Our wonderful hosts were from Manchester Youth Council! In the morning we had a number of interactive workshop discussions, including presentations from Wright Robinson and St Agnes primary school. It was a great opportunity to listen further to children and young people about their hopes and dreams for Manchester.
We were delighted that the Lord Mayor of Manchester joined our day, along with the executive member for Children’s and Early Years, Our Director of Children’s services, and other ambassadors across the public, private and voluntary sector.
We were joined by KPMG who did an interactive workshop on cyber security, MCR Active who promoted Children’s right to Play, The Horsfall (42nd St) who provided an creative activity, which explored children and young peoples perceptions of Manchester and Media Cubs who provided our young people with the opportunities to practice their reporting and interviewing skills!
Following the success of the day we are now analysing all the feedback, to determine our ‘badge selection’ i.e. what are the things that really matter to children and young people. Children and Young people will be announcing our chosen badges at a full council meeting early in 2024!
