What are the Buzz Awards? 

 The Youth Buzz Awards, organized by the Manchester City Council in collaboration with the Manchester Youth Council, celebrate the remarkable achievements of young people in Manchester. This annual event, held on May 1, 2025, aims to recognize and reward young individuals aged 11-19 (or up to 25 for those with special educational needs, disabilities, or who are carers or care leavers) for their positive contributions to their communities The awards are part of Manchester’s initiative to become a UNICEF-recognized Child Friendly City, ensuring that young people have a meaningful say in local decisions that affect their lives. The event features ten award categories, including Youth Project of the Year, Young Leader of the Year, and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, among others the ceremony not only highlights the achievements of these young individuals but also encourages them to continue making a difference in their communities. 

What role did I play? 

 I had the pleasure of helping out at the Buzz Awards this year, contributing to the event’s success in various ways.. My tasks included preparing goodie bags filled with delightful surprises for the attendees, blowing up colourful balloons to add a festive touch, and ensuring everything was organized to perfection. I also set up tables, making them look formal and neat, adding a touch of elegance to the venue. Additionally, I coordinated with other volunteers to manage the flow of the event, ensuring that every detail was attended to. It was a rewarding experience to see all the hard work come together and contribute to such a memorable and inspiring event. 

What I enjoyed? 

One of the highlights of my experience at the Youth Buzz Awards was witnessing the incredible talents of the young participants. It was truly inspiring to see their dedication and creativity on full display, whether through performances, projects, or leadership initiatives. The event was not just about the awards; it was a celebration of youth potential and community spirit. The food and desserts were another delightful aspect of the evening. The variety and quality of the dishes served added to the festive atmosphere, making the event even more enjoyable. Meeting the Mayor and other councillors was a memorable moment as well. Their presence underscored the importance of the event and the recognition of the youth’s contributions. Engaging in conversations with them provided valuable insights into the city’s efforts to support and empower young people. Overall, the combination of talent, delicious food, and meaningful interactions made the Youth Buzz Awards an unforgettable experience.
