We are thrilled to celebrate Anum, the talented winner of the Young Carer Badge design competition! Her design stood out for its creativity, meaning, and powerful message of support for young carers.
Anum created her design with a thoughtful purpose to help teachers and others identify young carers in a subtle and respectful way, while also empowering the child wearing the badge.
Her aim was to remind young carers that they deserve appreciation and respect, not only from the people around them, but from themselves.
”The badge is not about making young carers feel different; it is about recognising their strength, resilience, and the important role they play. Every element of the design was carefully chosen to reflect this.
…I hope this design is used to highlight the strength a young carer has” (Anum)
At the heart of the badge is a trophy an uplifting symbol of recognition and respect for the incredible role young carers play every day.
The judges were deeply impressed by the intention and meaning behind the design. They praised it for going beyond aesthetics to deliver a heartfelt message of empowerment and inclusion. The design was described as inspiring, thoughtful, and a powerful representation of respect for young carers. It reflects a clear understanding of their challenges and the importance of creating something that uplifts them without setting them apart.
By promoting visibility, support, and inclusion, Anum’s design contributes directly to Manchester’s commitment to building a city where children feel valued, heard, and supported whether in schools, youth settings, or public spaces.
Congratulations, Anum!
